DOVADO Firmware 7.0 till PRO / DOMA / GO / TINY

Greetings everyone!

We have been VERY busy these past couple of months. A lot of firmware development, testing, fixing and planning. Well, today we have mustered up our confidence and released firmware version 7.0! This firmware release is limited to the DOVADO TINY / GO / DOMA / PRO router models. It is not available for the DOVADO 4GR as this model has been discontinued and succeeded by our 3rd generation dual-USB port router; the DOVADO PRO. It is the world’s fastest router for USB modems, handling 4G modems at FULL 150Mbps speeds. So what’s new in firmware 7.0, you wonder?

For starters, we have implemented a PPTP-based VPN client! SURPRISE!

This will allow you to connect all/any devices at home or office to a remote VPN server. VPN will provide you a secure virtual pipe between your router and the remote server it is connecting to, making sure that nobody can eavesdrop on your precious data packets as you work from home or abroad. There are countless uses of VPN which many of you know about already, so we will not need to dive too much into this topic.   ;-)

Please note that (for now), the Connection Tracker is disabled when using VPN straight out of the router. We are working on a long-term happy relationship between these two features. So, if you have any critical applications that require a permanent Internet uptime, please do not rely on VPN as we cannot assure it to work perfectly. It’s on our to-do list.

Second, as you already realized over the past 5 years, we are nuts about SMS! Therefore, we have implemented a really, really, really cool time-saving SMS command: “upgrade”

Once you have enabled this SMS command in the SMS->REMOTE CONTROL page, you’ll be able to send an SMS to your DOVADO router from any old phone, instructing the router to download the latest firmware from our servers! This will make life a lot easier for you when you receive a notification from the router that there’s a new firmware available. It’ll also simplify upgrades for those of you who have many routers out in the field, via a group SMS.
